A holistic approach to solutions.

The design of an efficient logistics system extends far beyond the material flow between individual production departments and the physical networking of workplaces and machines. Production logistics functions as the link between procurement logistics and distribution logistics. Production logistics is responsible for guaranteeing delivery capability at all times, providing an optimal production and logistics system, and developing a material flow structure aligned with the logistics requirements – an enormous challenge in times of decreasing lot sizes, increasingly shorter throughput times, extremely low stock levels and largely stockless processes.

The key to the success of the project is a systems thinking approach that takes mutual interdependencies into account, and a mindset centred on flows of materials, information and individuals. The overall interaction of the individual production components always has to be kept in focus, including warehousing, transportation and inventory costs. This holistic perspective is firmly ingrained in our thinking, planning and actions.

Within the scope of production logistics, our range of services comprises planning the logistics processes for both the individual buildings and equipment as well as the processes within the various departments.
Production logistics planning thus has a major impact on the arrangement of the factory buildings relative to one other as well as on the layout development within the building complexes. We support you in designing and implementing all of the logistical functions needed to perform your production tasks. All of the logistics processes, from goods receipt up to warehousing, from picking and staging goods through to packing and shipping, are optimised into an integrated system.

Areas for design and concept development

  • Logistics processes for goods receipt and shipment
  • Warehouse and interim storage for raw materials, semi-finished goods and finished goods
  • Material transports between the processing stations
  • Interim storage and goods staging systems at the processing stations
  • Container systems, Kanban systems and “supermarket” staging
  • Warehouse and goods staging systems for tools, equipment, testing and measuring instruments
  • Disposal logistics, e.g. for chips, shavings and waste materials

Planning services

  • Material flow analyses, including recording, logging and calculation of the transport expenditures between all functional departments
  • Inventory analysis and development of warehousing strategies
  • Structuring and mapping of the material flow system and the processing stations
  • Analysis and system comparison of warehouse, interim storage, and transport systems
  • Preparation of requirements and performance specifications, execution and management of the tender process, up to the contract award
  • Integration of upstream and downstream logistics providers, suppliers and customers
  • Support during the realisation phase; training and tests
